Clean Up Australia is calling on all Australians to help reduce plastic bag use in 2006!
By following a few simple steps we can stop plastic bags from blocking our drains and creeks, injuring our precious marine life and harming our wildlife.
The focus of the Say NO to Plastic Bags Campaign is to enable shoppers and retailers to reduce the number of plastic bags handed out at checkouts.
If you're a shopper... It's easy - just Say NO to Plastic Bags when you go shopping, take your reusable bags and use them at every shop, not just the supermarket.
If you're a retailer... Put an end to Plastic Bags - it's in your hands. It's simple and inexpensive to make the change. We can show you how. A comprehensive kit has been designed to help any retailer - large or small - to start reducing plastic bag use and increase recycling. The kit contains a guide on how to refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle, staff training materials and in-store promotional items to generate action. The Retailer's Kit can be purchased from Clean Up Australia for $45 (including GST).

New materials for retailers
Clean Up Australia also provides a website and suite of materials to help small business retailers choose plastic bag alternatives. The website was developed in partnership with the Federal Department of the Environment and Heritage and the Australian Retailers Association and can be viewed at www.noplasticbags.org.au
If you're a local council, community group or school...
Clean Up Australia is also inviting local communities to help drive change. Local councils, community groups and schools are always great ambassadors for Clean Up activities. It's easy to run a 'bag swap', design your own reusable bags and encourage local retailers to come on board. We can provide promotional materials, media assistance and advice on activities that work.
Support for the campaign has been very positive with the Federal Government, nearly every supermarket chain around Australia and Stockland Shopping Centres signing up. In addition non-supermarket businesses such as Bakers Delight and Caltex have also joined the campaign.
